BeansGames ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. Touch Grass is designed around local data storage wherever practical. This Privacy Policy explains what information the application collects, how it is used, what permissions are requested, and how data is handled.

1. Location Data and Permissions

Touch Grass is a location-based exploration application. Its primary function is to reveal a digital fog-of-war map based on your real-world movement. To provide this experience, the application requires access to precise location data. Exploration history is stored locally on your device unless you choose to export your data or information is processed as described in this Privacy Policy.

Foreground Location

While the application is open and actively being used, location data may be used to:

• Reveal exploration grid squares.
• Track explored areas.
• Calculate movement-based gameplay rewards.
• Display location-based statistics.
• Detect newly discovered locations.

Background Location

Touch Grass supports exploration while the device screen is locked or while other applications are being used. If you grant Background Location permission, the application may continue tracking exploration progress during active exploration sessions.

Background Location permission is requested because the application's core exploration mechanics can continue while the application is not visible. Without this permission, exploration progress may only be recorded while the application is actively open on screen.

Background location may be used to:

• Continue revealing explored areas.
• Maintain uninterrupted exploration sessions.
• Calculate movement-based rewards.
• Detect newly discovered locations.

The application may also record timestamps associated with exploration activity. These timestamps are used to support features such as exploration timelapses, heatmaps, visitation statistics, activity history, and similar gameplay features. This information is stored locally on the device unless the user explicitly exports their data.

To identify places such as cities, suburbs, parks and other geographic features, the application may transmit your current coordinates to backend geocoding services. These requests are used only to retrieve geographic information and support boundary caching. The application is not designed to store a permanent server-side history of your exploration locations.

We do not sell your location history or use it for advertising purposes.

2. Local Data Storage and Security

We treat location history as sensitive information and implement security measures intended to help protect it.

• Encrypted Database: Exploration data is stored using SQLCipher with AES-256 encryption.
• Protected Encryption Keys: Encryption credentials may be stored using Android security features, including EncryptedSharedPreferences where supported.
• Application Sandbox: Data is stored inside the application's private Android sandbox and is not accessible to other applications under normal operating conditions.
• Local-First Design: Exploration history is designed to remain on your device unless you choose to export or share it.

3. Photos, Audio, and Journal Content

Touch Grass includes an optional location journaling feature that allows users to attach photos, voice recordings and written notes to location pins. These features are entirely optional and are not required to use the core exploration functionality of the application.

Camera, microphone, and media permissions are optional. The application remains functional without granting these permissions.

• Camera: Used when you choose to capture photos.
• Microphone: Used when you choose to record voice notes.
• Media Access: Used only when you choose to select an existing image from your device to attach to a journal entry or location pin

Photos, voice recordings and journal entries are stored locally on your device. This content is not automatically uploaded to our servers, shared with other users, or published publicly by the application. Exporting or sharing this content only occurs when you explicitly choose to do so.

4. Third-Party Services

Touch Grass uses trusted third-party services to provide mapping, geographic information, cloud infrastructure, advertising, analytics, crash reporting, and in-app purchases. These services only receive the information necessary to provide their respective functionality.

• Firebase and Google Cloud: Used to support backend infrastructure, cloud functions, cached geographic data, and other application services.
• Geocoding Services: When geographic information such as city names, suburbs, parks, or other locations is required, the application may transmit your current coordinates to backend services in order to retrieve this information. These requests are used to provide geographic lookups and boundary caching. We do not intentionally maintain a persistent server-side history of individual users' exploration activity.
• Google Maps SDK: Used to display interactive maps within the application.
• Google Play Billing: Used to securely process in-app purchases and restore eligible purchases. Purchase information is handled by Google Play.
• Google AdMob: Used to display advertisements within the application. AdMob may collect device identifiers and related information in accordance with Google's privacy policies.
• Firebase Analytics: Used to collect anonymous usage information, device information, and performance metrics to help improve the application.
• Firebase Crashlytics: Used to collect crash reports and diagnostic information to improve application stability and reliability.

These third-party services operate under their own privacy policies and may collect, process, store, and retain information according to their own terms and legal obligations.

5. Advertising

Touch Grass displays advertisements using Google AdMob. Advertisements help support continued development of the application and may provide optional in-game rewards when users choose to watch rewarded advertisements.

Google AdMob may collect device identifiers and other information required to provide, measure, and improve advertising services. Any information collected by Google AdMob is handled in accordance with Google's own Privacy Policy.

Touch Grass does not sell your personal information to advertisers.

Where supported by your device, you may manage advertising preferences, including resetting your Advertising ID, through your Android device settings.

6. Permissions Summary

• Precise Location: Required to record exploration progress, reveal explored areas, discover nearby places, and provide location-based gameplay.
• Background Location: Optional. Allows exploration to continue while the application is not actively visible during an exploration session.
• Internet: Required for maps, geographic lookups, cloud services, advertisements, analytics, crash reporting, and in-app purchases.
• Notifications: Optional. Used for gameplay notifications and application notifications where supported.
• Camera: Optional. Used only when you choose to capture a photo for a journal entry or location pin.
• Microphone: Optional. Used only when you choose to record a voice note for a journal entry or location pin.
• Media Access: Optional. Used only when you choose to select an existing image from your device to attach to a journal entry or location pin.

7. Data Retention and User Controls

Touch Grass is designed around a local-first approach. Unless otherwise stated below, your gameplay data remains stored only on your device until you delete it, clear the application's data, or uninstall the application.

Data Retention

• Exploration History
  Exploration progress, discovered locations, explored areas, heatmaps, timestamps, and gameplay history are stored locally on your device until you delete them using the Wipe All Data option, clear the application's storage, or uninstall the application.
• Pins, Journal Entries, Photos and Voice Notes
  Pins, journal notes, photos, and voice recordings remain stored locally on your device until you delete the associated content, clear application data, or uninstall the application.
• Cached Geographic Data
  Location names, map boundaries, and other geographic information retrieved by the application may be cached locally to improve performance. This cached data remains until application data is cleared or the application is uninstalled.
• Exported Backups
  If you choose to export your data, exported files are written only to the location you select (such as Downloads, external storage, or cloud storage chosen by you). Once exported, these files are outside the application's control and remain until you delete them manually.
• Backend Requests
  When location names or map boundaries are requested, your device may send coordinates to our backend services in order to retrieve geographic information. The backend is designed solely to provide geographic lookups and cache map boundary data for improved performance. It is not designed to permanently store or build a history of individual users' exploration activity or location trails.
• Firebase Analytics
  Anonymous analytics information is processed and retained according to Google's Firebase Analytics retention policies.
• Firebase Crashlytics
  Crash reports and diagnostic information are retained by Firebase Crashlytics for approximately 90 days before automatic deletion, in accordance with Google's Crashlytics policies.

Where supported by Android and enabled by the user, certain application data may also be included in Android's automatic backup system for the purpose of restoring data to the same user's device after reinstalling the application. This backup is managed by Android and Google rather than by Touch Grass.

Deleting Your Data

You can permanently erase all locally stored application data at any time by using the Wipe All Data option within the application's Settings menu. This removes gameplay data, exploration history, journal entries, cached geographic information, and other locally stored application data.

Uninstalling the application removes all data stored within the application's private storage on your device. If Android Auto Backup is enabled on your device, certain application data may be temporarily retained by Google's Android backup service for restoration purposes. This backup is controlled by Android and Google rather than by Touch Grass.

Exported files that you choose to save outside the application are not deleted automatically and must be removed manually from the storage location where they were saved.

Touch Grass is designed around a local-first architecture. With the exception of limited information required to provide maps, geographic lookups, advertising, analytics, crash reporting, and in-app purchases, your gameplay data is intended to remain on your own device unless you explicitly choose to export it.

8. Children's Privacy

Touch Grass is not directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect legal, technical, operational, or product changes. Updated versions will be published through our official channels.
